Building a Plumbing Company from the Ground Up
By the numbers
Betting On A Dream
Marv Colby hadn’t planned on owning his own plumbing company someday—something he told a friend several times. He was, in his own words, “happy working for a company doing commercial roofing projects, etc.” Finally, towards the end of 2008, Marv’s friend convinced him that he had what it takes to start a business. And after securing the appropriate licensing, Evergreen Plumbing went from a conversation to reality.
One-Man Island
After working within the industry for a number of years, Marv was now a business owner and found himself in a particular predicament. From a recent interview with him, “It was tough in the beginning, just because you kind of feel like you’re on an island. You know a lot of people in the trades, but once you’re in business, you feel in direct competition, and you can’t reach out to anyone.”
Finding a Solution that Works
After reaching out to Scorpion, Marv was happy to turn the marketing reigns over so he could focus on his business. “Your phone ringing is the lifeblood of your business, and Scorpion has continually helped us position ourselves for growth.”
Now, Marv is experiencing a 20% growth year over year and couldn’t be happier with his decision. “We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Marketing is not something I understand, and maybe never will.” Thanks to his new team, he can put his energy back where it belongs. “It’s really freed me up to work on my branding and just continue to work on the culture of the company and just being there with my guys.”
“Knowing and being confident that you have a company like Scorpion that’s all about results, constantly giving you reports, will answer any questions you have to the best of their ability so you can understand it, that’s, I mean, I couldn’t ask for anything else.”
